Rob Oliver

Rob Oliver is a keynote speaker, best-selling author, disability advocate, and Guinness World Record holder whose life was transformed by a spinal cord injury sustained while body surfing. During a family vacation, Oliver was riding a wave when he was pushed headfirst into the sand, resulting in paralysis from the chest down with limited use of his arms and hands. These circumstances led Oliver to reevaluate his perspectives on life, relationships, and success, and the insights he developed through living with quadriplegia have informed his work in disability advocacy and public speaking.

Oliver completed a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree from Duquesne University. He was recognized as a University of Pittsburgh Alumni of Distinction. His academic background laid the foundation for a career focused on advocacy and public service. Multiple Pennsylvania governors have appointed Oliver to statewide advisory councils, including the Community Living Advisory Committee, the Developmental Disability Council, and the Statewide Independent Living Council, where he serves as chair. Oliver is actively involved in disability advocacy at local, state, and national levels, working to advance disability rights, accessibility, and public understanding.

As a speaker and author, Oliver addresses topics such as overcoming adversity, disability inclusion, and accessibility. His autobiography, "Still Walking," chronicles his experiences following his injury and his commitment to living fully. His second book presents 20 stories of personal challenges and the lessons they offer about the human condition. Oliver has spoken to audiences ranging from corporations and service organizations to schools and faith-based groups. His presentations have reached thousands through events at companies, schools, associations, and conferences, as well as through radio and TV appearances. He has twice received the annual Best of award as a motivational speaker.

In the healthcare sector, Oliver hosts the "Perspectives on Healthcare" podcast, featuring interviews with members of the medical community. Drawing from his experience as a patient, Oliver highlights the impact of healthcare professionals and teams on patient outcomes and explores ways to improve the patient experience. He set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Interviewing Marathon, conducting 137 interviews over 37 hours, 44 minutes, and 17 seconds.
