Richard Lui Biography
Richard Lui is an author, journalist, and filmmaker. He has been an MSNBC dayside anchor since 2010 and covered some of the network’s major breaking stories, including the 2011 debt-ceiling debate, the Arab Spring, and the deficit super committee failure. Before joining MSNBC, Lui spent five years at CNN Worldwide, where he became the first Asian American male to anchor a daily, national cable news show.
Lui has covered racial strife for 25 years, from Rodney King to George Floyd he’s covered in the field. And now the phenomenon of violence against senior and female Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI). As a journalist, Lui is accustomed to seeing how journalism can be a selfless endeavor, telling stories of other people, from presidents to social workers, who are more often not like him nor look like him. This is what inspired him to write his bestselling book, "Enough About Me: The Unexpected Power of Selflessness."
Lui has directed two Academy Award qualified films, "Sky Blossom" in 2020, and "Unconditional" in 2023, which was screened at the White House by First Lady Jill Biden.
