Richard Brookhiser

Richard Brookhiser is a journalist, biographer, and historian known for his extensive work on the Founding Fathers and American history. At age 15, Brookhiser's article about antiwar protests at his high school appeared as a cover story in National Review. Although admitted to Yale Law School, he chose to work full-time for National Review after graduating and became the youngest senior editor in the magazine's history at age 23. Brookhiser continues to serve as a senior editor at National Review and as a columnist for American History.

Brookhiser has authored several books on the Founding Fathers, including "Founding Father: Rediscovering George Washington," "Alexander Hamilton, American," "America's First Dynasty: The Adamses 1735–1918," "Gentleman Revolutionary: Gouverneur Morris, the Rake Who Wrote the Constitution," "What Would the Founders Do? Our Questions, Their Answers," and "George Washington on Leadership." His writing explores the complexities of early American leaders and examines their ongoing influence on American society and politics.

In addition to his books, Brookhiser has contributed to historical documentaries, serving as author and host for two PBS films by Michael Pack: "Rediscovering George Washington" and "Rediscovering Alexander Hamilton." He was also the historian curator for "Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America," an exhibition at the New-York Historical Society. Brookhiser's journalism has appeared in publications such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Cosmopolitan, Atlantic Monthly, Time, and Vanity Fair.

Brookhiser's body of work also includes "Founders' Son: A Life of Abraham Lincoln" and "Glorious Lessons: John Trumbull, Painter of the American Revolution." He hosted "John Marshall: The Man Who Made the Supreme Court," a film by Leo Eaton. His contributions to American history and biography have been recognized with the National Humanities Medal and the Guggenheim Fellowship. Brookhiser's career spans more than five decades, establishing him as a leading voice in the study of the American founding era, political history, and biography.
