Rhett Akins launched his country music career with the 1995 release of A Thousand Memories, featuring his breakout No. 1 hit “That Ain’t My Truck.” He followed with another chart-topper, “Don’t Get Me Started,” in 1996, solidifying his success as a solo artist. But Akins’ true legacy lies in his songwriting. With 31 No. 1 singles to his name, he’s penned hits for major artists like Luke Bryan (“Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day”), Blake Shelton (“Honey Bee”), Jason Aldean (“When She Says Baby”), and his son Thomas Rhett (“It Goes Like This,” “Life Changes,” and “Look What God Gave Her”).
Akins has earned numerous accolades, including being named BMI Songwriter of the Year twice and Billboard’s No. 4 Country Songwriter in 2010. He’s also a seven-time CMA Triple Play Award winner, recognizing his streak of three No. 1 hits in a year. In 2019, he was honored as the ACM’s first-ever Songwriter of the Decade, and in 2021, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
