Randy Garutti

Randy Garutti is a seasoned hospitality executive best known for leading Shake Shack Inc., the acclaimed fast-casual brand recognized for quality burgers, shakes, and a “community gathering experience.” After beginning his career at Union Square Hospitality Group—where he managed celebrated New York restaurants such as Union Square Café and Tabla—Garutti joined Shake Shack full-time in 2007 as Director of Operations. He rose to Chief Operating Officer in 2010 and was named CEO in 2012, overseeing the brand’s remarkable IPO in 2015. Under his leadership, Shake Shack expanded from a single hot dog cart into a global phenomenon with more than 500 locations across 33 U.S. states and 18 countries. In 2024, after 24 years with the company, Garutti announced his retirement, continuing to advise through the leadership transition.

Garutti is widely respected for championing “enlightened hospitality” and embedding it into Shake Shack’s culture. His leadership philosophy focused on scaling the brand responsibly while maintaining product quality and service excellence. He prioritized employee growth and opportunity through progressive programs, including shared stock ownership. A recognized thought leader in the hospitality industry, Garutti has been featured in major media outlets and is a frequent keynote speaker on leadership, customer experience, sustainable growth, and company culture. He was honored as one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 and included on Nation’s Restaurant News Power List.

Garutti earned his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and studied abroad at La Sorbonne. He serves on boards including Square Inc. and the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District. Based in New York City with his wife and three children, Garutti’s leadership legacy continues to shape the future of hospitality.
