RL Grime

Henry Alfred Steinway, known professionally as RL Grime, is an American DJ and record producer recognized for his role in the fusion of trap and bass music within electronic dance music. Steinway initially produced under the alias Clockwork before launching the RL Grime project, gaining attention with tracks that blended hip-hop influences and high-energy EDM. He joined the WeDidIt collective alongside Los Angeles producers Shlohmo, Groundislava, and D33J, contributing to the LA underground electronic scene. His stage name is inspired by author R.L. Stine.

RL Grime's career gained momentum through viral remixes and acclaimed EPs. He collaborated with producer Salva on a remix of Kanye West's "Mercy," which achieved significant streaming success. His "High Beams" EP on Fool's Gold Records debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Electronic Chart and reached No. 8 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart. These releases established his reputation for innovative basslines and intricate production within the electronic music industry. RL Grime independently released his debut studio album, "VOID," which premiered as the No. 1 Electronic album in the United States, amassing over 150 million plays and leading to performances at major festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza.

Steinway continued to expand his creative output with his second studio album, "Nova," released through WeDidIt Records and featuring collaborations with artists including Miguel, Julia Michaels, Chief Keef, Ty Dolla Sign, 24HRS, and Joji. The album was preceded by the single "Era," which Billboard described as "exotic, massive, and full-of-left-turns." He has also collaborated with artists such as Big Sean, Miguel, and Skrillex, and appeared in Alexander Wang's #WANGSQUAD alongside Travis Scott and Zoe Kravitz. His third studio album, "PLAY," released on his Sable Valley label, was divided into three parts—APEX, GRID, and RUSH—and featured collaborations with JAWNS, Juelz, ISOxo, Montell2099, EMELINE, Bea Miller, 070 Shake, and Baauer.

Beyond studio work, RL Grime is known for his annual Halloween Mix series, which began in October and features original songs, remixes, and vocal drops from celebrities. The series has included contributions from Tony Hawk, Pharrell Williams, Hannibal Buress, Shaquille O'Neal, Guy Fieri, T-Pain, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bruce Buffer, and Jack Black. Later editions of the series have explored breakbeat, bass house, and other electronic subgenres, highlighting RL Grime's versatility in music production.

As an entrepreneur, RL Grime founded the Sable Valley record label, aiming to curate and showcase new music and emerging talent within the electronic music scene. Through Sable Valley, he has organized major tours, including the "Touching Grass Tour," bringing his live performances to audiences across the United States. With a catalog spanning viral remixes, chart-topping albums, and a pioneering label, RL Grime is recognized as a significant figure in contemporary electronic music, trap, and bass production.
