Phnam Bagley

Phnam Bagley is a French industrial designer, futurist, and space architect whose work spans a range of disciplines, from terrestrial design to the frontiers of outer space. Bagley earned a master's degree in industrial design at Strate in France, focusing on space and luxury design, and a master's degree in space architecture from the University of Houston's SICSA. She began her career designing transportation and habitats for manned space missions before transitioning to consumer electronics and handcrafted luxury goods. Prior to founding her own firm, Bagley worked at design consultancies including IDEO, Lunar (now McKinsey Design), Matter (now Fjord), and LifestyleDesign.

Bagley is the co-founder of Nonfiction, a design and innovation firm that specializes in turning science fiction concepts into practical solutions. As an industrial designer and aerospace architect, she develops hardware and experiences in wearables, healthcare and wellness, education, robotics, transportation, and aerospace, with a focus on integrating advanced technologies into accessible products. Her client portfolio includes NASA, Sierra Space, Intel, Comcast, Halo Neuroscience, Stanford University, and Rice University. Nonfiction's work has contributed to significant fundraising, sales, and acquisitions, establishing the firm as a partner for startups and global organizations.

Bagley's approach to design operates at the intersection of science, technology, and human interaction, with an emphasis on first-to-market solutions and intellectual property. Her projects include wearables for health and performance, renewable energy solutions for rural communities, and space architecture for scientific research. Bagley's work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and aims to create positive impact for people and the environment. She serves as Chair of Design at OSMED (Organization for Space Medicine, Engineering and Design), promoting interdisciplinary collaboration for safer and more inclusive human spaceflight. Bagley is also part of the visioneering team at the XPRIZE Foundation, contributing to innovation in health.

In addition to her work at Nonfiction, Bagley is an educator and advocate for expanding access to design knowledge. She co-produces and co-hosts "Future Future," an educational video series on design and the future, and has taught industrial design at California College of the Arts. Bagley also co-produced "Supposedly," a series on sustainable hardware engineering and product development. She teaches creativity and innovation to organizations including NASA centers, law enforcement, military, and veteran groups. Bagley serves on several boards, including SciArt Exchange, which develops programs merging science, space, and the arts.

Bagley speaks internationally on topics such as sustainability, design, space exploration, education, and human development. She has delivered keynote addresses at events including TED, SXSW, and COP, offering insights on the role of industrial design, space architecture, and human-centered innovation in shaping a sustainable future.
