Patti Davis

Patti Davis, born Patricia Ann Reagan and known professionally by her mother's maiden name, is an author, activist, and public voice recognized for her work in literature, Alzheimer's advocacy, and social issues. As the daughter of the 40th president of the United States, Davis navigated the intersection of Hollywood and politics, often adopting views that diverged from her family's conservative background. She was active in the anti-nuclear movement during the Cold War, advocating for peace and voicing concerns about nuclear proliferation, frequently in contrast to her father's policies. Davis also pursued acting, appearing in television series and films including "Tango & Cash" and "Hart to Hart." She studied creative writing and drama at Northwestern University before transferring to the University of Southern California.

Davis began her literary career with the novel "Home Front" and has published a range of fiction and memoirs. Her autobiography, "The Way I See It," offered a candid portrayal of family dynamics and generated significant public discussion. Davis has addressed her journey of accountability in major media appearances, including on NBC's TODAY. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Newsweek, Time, and The Washington Post. Her original screenplay, "Spring Thaw," was adapted into the Hallmark Channel film "Sacrifices of the Heart."

Following her father's diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease, Davis chronicled her experience as a caregiver in "The Long Goodbye." She founded "Beyond Alzheimer's," a support group for families and friends of Alzheimer's patients, which she co-leads at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Health Santa Monica Medical Center in affiliation with the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care program. Davis expanded on her advocacy in "Floating in the Deep End: How Caregivers Can See Beyond Alzheimer's," a book recognized for its emotional honesty and practical guidance.

Davis's book, "Dear Mom and Dad: A Letter About Family, Memory, and the America We Once Knew," explores her relationship with her parents and her personal history. Written as a letter to her late parents, the memoir examines themes of family, memory, and forgiveness. Throughout her career, Davis has addressed issues such as sexual assault awareness, gun violence, and political civility, establishing herself as a credible voice on family, identity, and social change.
