Norman Katz

Norman Katz is a supply chain technology and business operations expert with a career spanning more than three decades. Katz has architected and delivered enterprise software solutions for global companies, transforming and strengthening end-to-end order-to-cash and procure-to-pay supply chain operations. After an 11-year technology career in manufacturing and consumer product companies, Katz founded his consulting firm, Katzscan Inc.

Katz is recognized for his expertise in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), barcode applications, and supply chain vendor compliance. He holds credentials as a Certified Fraud Examiner, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Controls Specialist, Microsoft Office Specialist, and is a licensed Florida private investigator. Katz assists companies with software selection and implementation, operational efficiency improvement, data analysis, strategic growth, technical and user documentation, and change management. His clients include consumer packaged goods firms in the retail sector, as well as companies in staffing, publishing, manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceutical, and other industries. Katz has been recognized among the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders on Analytics and the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Supply Chain.

Katz is an author and international speaker, having delivered more than 60 presentations and published over 40 articles on business and technology topics. He is the author of "Detecting and Reducing Supply Chain Fraud," "Successful Supply Chain Vendor Compliance," and "Attack, Parry, Riposte: A Fencer's Guide To Better Business Execution." "Detecting and Reducing Supply Chain Fraud" is noted as the first book to address how supply chain systems such as ERP, EDI, and automatic identification can be leveraged to proactively and analytically detect and reduce fraud in supply chain operations. Katz is a regular columnist for Supply Chain Management Review and contributes as one of its Visionaries.

In addition to his professional work, Katz is a fencer who integrates fencing strategies and tactics into his business philosophy. He has participated in fencing since 1993 and coached since 2007, using the sport as an analogy for business performance challenges. As a foil and sabre fencer, Katz is ambidextrous and capable of holding two swords at once, offering a dual-perspective approach that benefits his students. His book, "Attack, Parry, Riposte: A Fencer's Guide To Better Business Execution," is recognized as the first to combine fencing strategies with business execution, covering topics such as project management, brand management, leadership, and competitor analysis. Katz also authored a piece for Costco Connection titled "Don't get foiled — What business leaders can learn from the sport of fencing," based on his book.
