Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts is a prolific author in fiction, recognized as a No. 1 New York Times bestselling writer with more than 250 novels. Her works include "Inheritance," "The Mirror," "Mind Games," "Identity," "The Chronicles of The One" trilogy, and "The Dragon Heart Legacy" trilogy. Roberts is primarily known for romance novels published under her own name and for police procedurals with science fiction elements under the pen name J. D. Robb. There are more than 500 million copies of her books in print.

Roberts began her writing career while at home with her young children during a blizzard, penning her first novel, "Irish Thoroughbred." Between 1982 and 1984, she wrote 23 novels for Silhouette, published under various imprints. Roberts surpassed the hundred-novel milestone with "Montana Sky" and later doubled that with "The Witness." Her novels often feature relatable characters rather than focusing on glamour and wealth. Roberts maintains a disciplined writing schedule, dedicating up to eight hours a day, five days a week to her craft.

Under the pen name J. D. Robb, Roberts created the "In Death" series, featuring detective Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke, set in a mid-21st century New York City. The series explores the evolving relationship between the two main characters. Roberts has published dozens of novels and novellas in the "In Death" series. She was named by TIME as one of the 100 Most Influential People, and every one of her published romances has appeared on the New York Times Bestseller list. Lifetime Television adapted four of her novels into TV movies: "Angels Fall," "Montana Sky," "Blue Smoke," and "Carolina Moon."

Roberts is a founding member of Romance Writers of America and was the first inductee into the organization's Hall of Fame. She received the RWA Lifetime Achievement Award, which was later renamed the RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award. Roberts is also the recipient of Golden Medallion awards, RITA Awards, and Quill awards. Her books have spent more than 150 combined weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and have been published in over 34 countries.

Roberts is also known for her philanthropic efforts. She established the Nora Roberts Foundation to support literacy, children, the arts, social justice, and the environment, with literacy as its primary focus. The Foundation endowed the Nora Roberts Center for American Romance at McDaniel College, supporting academic scholarship on the American romance novel. The foundation makes grants to approximately 140 organizations each year. Through her writing and philanthropy, Roberts has made a significant impact on the literary world and the communities she supports.
