Noel Tichy

Dr. Noel M. Tichy is recognized for his expertise in leadership development and organizational transformation. He earned a doctorate in social psychology at Columbia University, where he taught for nine years. Tichy serves as a professor of organizational behavior and human resource management at the Ross School of Business and is the director of the Global Business Partnership at the University of Michigan. He has been identified as a key figure in management education, with recognition as one of the "Top 10 Management Gurus" by BusinessWeek and Business 2.0.

Tichy was recruited by former General Electric CEO Jack Welch to lead the transformation of GE's education institute, Crotonville, from a management center into a global leadership institute. As director of global development at Crotonville, he implemented action learning programs that contributed to its reputation as a leading corporate learning center. Tichy advocates for leaders to serve as teachers as well as managers, a philosophy that has shaped his work and writing and has influenced executives and organizations internationally.

Tichy has co-authored, edited, or contributed to more than 30 books. His works include "The Ethical Challenge: How to Lead with Unyielding Integrity," "The Cycle of Leadership: How Great Leaders Teach Their Companies to Win," and "The Leadership Engine: How Winning Companies Build Leaders at Every Level," which was named one of the top 10 business books by BusinessWeek. The Washington Post recognized "Control Your Destiny or Someone Else Will," co-authored with Stratford Sherman, as one of the top 10 leadership books. He is also the co-author, with Warren Bennis, of "Judgment: How Winning Leaders Make Great Calls." His book "Succession: Mastering the Make or Break Process of Leadership Transition" was published by Penguin.

As director of the Global Business Partnership, Tichy led the Global Leadership Program, a 36-company consortium of Japanese, European, and North American organizations focused on developing senior executives and conducting action research on globalization in China, India, Russia, and Brazil. He also launched the Global Corporate Citizenship Initiative in partnership with GE, Procter & Gamble, and 3M, aimed at creating a national model for collaboration between business and society, emphasizing free enterprise and democratic principles. Tichy has served on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Review, Organizational Dynamics, Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Business Strategy, and was the founding editor-in-chief of Human Resource Management. With extensive consulting experience in both the private and public sectors, Tichy is a prominent voice in leadership development and organizational change.
