Nicholas J. Martino

Nicholas J. Martino is an expert in innovative education, with expertise in project-based learning, authentic learning, and social-emotional learning. As an educational consultant and curriculum architect, Martino spent a decade teaching anthropology and leading global learning expeditions before founding Authentic Learning Lab and NJM Global Consulting.

Martino has focused on the human aspects of teaching and learning, utilizing educational models and approaches to create positive change locally and globally. At THINK Global School, he taught project-based and place-based learning in various locations worldwide, traveling with the student body and applying these philosophies across 30 countries. He contributed to the design of the "Changemaker Curriculum" at THINK Global School and BIT School in Mexico, where he was recognized as the Country Lead for Education Innovation by HundrED. He later founded Authentic Learning Lab, a digital school dedicated to student learning and professional development for educators. The Authentic Learning Lab leverages technology to facilitate real-world learning, while NJM Global designs learning communities focused on holistic, intrinsically motivated learners.

Martino works at the intersection of education, workforce development, and community. Through his consultancy, he has designed curricula for innovative schools and provides training for learners, administrators, and educators through workshops and speaking events on topics such as well-being, social-emotional learning, sustainability, impact education, personalized learning, mentorship, coaching, project-based learning, place-based learning, and entrepreneurship. He has also served as a consultant for organizations including Headrush and Plus Wonder.

Martino has advocated for using the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for teaching and learning. His recognition includes Washington Post Teacher of the Year, Stafford County Teacher of the Year in Virginia, and Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction. He was named one of the top 100 Visionaries in Education by the Global Forum for Education and Learning. Martino is co-founder and CEO of Meta-Learning, an organization focused on reimagining the educational system and providing personalized, immersive skills development for children ages 13 and up.
