Neil Young

Neil Young is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter whose restless creativity has defined more than six decades of popular music. After moving to Los Angeles in 1966, he co-founded Buffalo Springfield and quickly emerged as one of rock’s most distinctive voices. He went on to join Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, playing at Woodstock and contributing to the landmark album “Déjà Vu,” while also launching a prolific solo career.

Young’s 1972 album “Harvest” yielded his only No. 1 single, “Heart of Gold,” and solidified his reputation as a songwriter of rare depth. Through the 1970s and beyond, he released works that balanced introspection and electric fury, from “Rust Never Sleeps” with its anthem “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)” to the grunge-inspiring “Freedom” and “Rockin’ in the Free World.” His influence earned him the title “Godfather of Grunge” and collaborations with artists including Pearl Jam and Sonic Youth.

Beyond music, Young co-founded Farm Aid and the Bridge School Benefit concerts, reflecting lifelong advocacy for family farmers, the environment, and children with disabilities. He also published the memoir “Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream” in 2012.

In recent years, Young has remained remarkably active, releasing archival treasures like “Oceanside Countryside” (2025) alongside new work with his band the Chrome Hearts on “Talkin to the Trees.” His live projects include the documentary “Coastal,” directed by his wife, Daryl Hannah, and extensive touring on the “Love Earth” tour. Even in his late seventies, Young continues to pair musical invention with outspoken activism, affirming his role as one of rock’s most enduring and uncompromising figures.
