
Nate Berkus is an interior designer, television host, and author known for his work in interior design, home renovation, and lifestyle media. Berkus established his interior design firm at age 24, founding Nate Berkus Associates in Chicago. The firm has focused on high-end residential and commercial projects, earning recognition for its modern eclectic sensibility.
Berkus began his career with internships at Dominique Aurientis in Paris and Sotheby's in Chicago before studying at Lake Forest College, where he earned degrees in French and sociology. His first major public appearance was on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," where he became a regular guest, providing design advice and coordinating home makeovers. This exposure led to a media career that includes hosting "Oprah's Big Give" on ABC, "American Dream Builders" on NBC, "The Nate Berkus Show," and "Nate and Jeremiah by Design" on TLC. He received two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host for "The Nate Berkus Show," which also won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design.
Berkus has authored two New York Times best-selling books, "Home Rules" and "The Things That Matter." The latter was recognized by The Washington Post as one of the best interior design books. He served as executive producer of the Academy Award-winning film "The Help." Berkus has collaborated on product lines for the home collection at Target and a fabric line at JoAnn Fabric & Craft Stores, and has served as artistic advisor for LG Studio.
His interior design work has appeared in Architectural Digest, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and House Beautiful. Berkus is included on the AD100 and Elle Decor A-List of top designers. His industry recognition includes being named Design Director by Chicago Social Magazine, House Beautiful's Next Wave Design Talent, and one of Crain's Business Magazine's 40 Under 40 to Watch. He received the Larry Kravet Design Industry Leadership Award from the New York School of Interior Design.
Alongside his husband, interior designer Jeremiah Brent, Berkus launched "Nate and Jeremiah by Design" on TLC and "The Nate and Jeremiah Home Project" on HGTV. Berkus describes his work as storytelling, aiming to reflect clients' lives through their home design. With a career spanning more than three decades, Berkus continues to influence interior design, home decor, and lifestyle media.
