Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling is an award-winning actor, comedian, writer, producer, and director, best known for her work on “The Office” and “The Mindy Project.” In 2012, Kaling founded Kaling International, and her production company was listed in TIME100's Most Influential Companies 2022.

Kaling rose to fame as a writer and performer on the American version of “The Office,” where she portrayed the character Kelly Kapoor and became a vital part of the show's success behind the scenes. She wrote and directed several episodes. Following her success on “The Office,” Kaling created and starred in “The Mindy Project,” a sitcom that ran from 2012 to 2017. She is also a successful show creator and producer, with credits that include “Never Have I Ever," “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and "Running Point."

She also gained recognition for her roles in "No Strings Attached," "The Five-Year Engagement," "A Wrinkle in Time," "Ocean's 8," and "Late Night." In addition to her work in film and television, Kaling has authored several best-selling memoirs, including “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns),” “Why Not Me?,” and "Nothing Like I Imagined (Except For Sometimes)."

Kaling is known for her sharp wit, distinctive voice, and contributions to increasing diversity in Hollywood. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including a Tony Award and six nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2013, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Kaling's contributions to the entertainment industry were further recognized in 2023, when she was awarded the National Medal of the Arts by President Joe Biden.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Indian immigrant parents, Kaling's love for comedy and performance developed at a young age. She attended Dartmouth College, where she majored in playwriting and was actively involved in the college's comedy scene. Since then, Kaling has been appointed as a board member for the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art.
