Mildred Muhammad

Mildred Muhammad is a domestic violence activist and international speaker known for her advocacy and educational outreach on the complexities of intimate partner violence. Drawing from her personal experience as the ex-wife of the D.C. sniper, Muhammad has used her story of survival to raise awareness and provide support to victims and survivors globally. Her work includes keynote addresses, training sessions for law enforcement and service providers, and the development of resources that address the psychological and emotional aspects of domestic abuse.

She is the author of "Scared Silent," a memoir that explores the impact of abuse, and "I'm Still Standing: Crawling Out Of The Darkness Into The Light," regarding the resilience required to rebuild one’s life. Additionally, she is the subject of "Hunted By My Husband: The Untold Story of the DC Sniper," an HBO Max/Discovery ID documentary launched in October 2025 in honor of Domestic Awareness Month.

Muhammad's presentations emphasize the importance of trauma-informed care and the need for systemic change in society's response to domestic violence. Her expertise has been recognized with awards and honors from advocacy groups and governmental organizations, reflecting her role as an educator and advocate for change. In 2024, Governor Wes Moore appointed Muhammad to serve on the Maryland State Board of Victim Services for five years.
