Mike Salguero Biography
Mike Salguero is the founder and CEO of ButcherBox, the direct-to-consumer meat and seafood company he launched in 2015. An entrepreneur with a background in technology and e-commerce, Salguero previously co-founded and led CustomMade, an online marketplace connecting consumers with craftspeople.
The idea for ButcherBox grew out of a personal search for high-quality, grass-fed beef that was difficult to find. Salguero initially invested $10,000 of his own money and raised more than $200,000 through Kickstarter to launch the company. He deliberately chose to build ButcherBox without outside venture capital, allowing him to retain control while pursuing a mission centered on meat quality, animal welfare, sustainability, and support for farmers.
Under Salguero’s leadership, ButcherBox has grown into one of the largest direct-to-consumer meat brands in the United States. The company became a Certified B Corporation in 2020 and has expanded beyond its original meat-subscription model into seafood, prepared foods, and pet products.
Salguero holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Babson College and a bachelor’s degree from Boston University. He is also a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship, company culture, and building mission-driven businesses.
