Michael Wirth

Michael K. Wirth is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Chevron Corporation, a leading global energy company. Wirth has spent more than four decades at Chevron, beginning his career as a design engineer after earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado. He has held a variety of engineering, construction, and operations roles, including president of marketing for Chevron's Asia/Middle East/Africa business in Singapore and president of global supply and trading. Wirth later served as executive vice president of Downstream & Chemicals and executive vice president of Midstream & Development, overseeing supply and trading, shipping, pipeline, and power operations, as well as corporate strategy and business development. He was named vice chairman before assuming his current leadership role.

During Wirth's tenure, Chevron has completed major strategic transactions in the energy sector, including the acquisition of Noble Energy and the $53 billion acquisition of Hess Corporation, strengthening the company's positions in the Permian Basin and Guyana's offshore developments. Wirth has advocated for natural gas as a transition fuel and for investment in carbon capture, hydrogen, and renewable fuels technologies. Under his leadership, Chevron has achieved significant carbon sequestration and reduced methane intensity in its oil and gas operations. Wirth is recognized for his insights on energy policy, frequently appearing at forums such as the Council on Foreign Relations CEO Speaker Series, Wall Street Journal CEO Summit, Aspen Ideas Festival, Gastech conference, and on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street."

Wirth has received the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award and the University Medal from the University of Colorado. He has also been recognized with the Distinguished Business Leadership Award from the Atlantic Council and the Jesse H. Jones International Citizen of the Year Award from the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston. Wirth is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and serves on the boards of the American Petroleum Institute, Catalyst, and the National Football Foundation. He is also affiliated with the National Petroleum Council, Business Roundtable, World Economic Forum International Business Council, The Business Council, and the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable.
