Michael Siegel Biography
Michael B. Siegel is a faculty member in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Previously, he spent 26 years as a faculty member in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health.
Dr. Siegel's research has focused in the areas of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. Tying this work together is the study of corporate influences on health -- especially advertising and marketing -- and strategies to counteract them. More recently, his work has concentrated on gun violence prevention in three areas: effects of state firearm laws on firearm-related morbidity and mortality, racial disparities in firearm violence and their causes, and gun culture.
Trained as a physician at the Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Siegel completed an MPH at the University of California, Berkeley and an epidemiology fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
