Maureen Zappala

Maureen Zappala is a speaker, author, and founder of High Altitude Strategies, specializing in leadership development, workplace confidence, and overcoming impostor syndrome. Zappala holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and spent more than 13 years at NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, now known as Glenn Research Center, conducting aircraft engine research.

Zappala became the youngest and first female manager of NASA’s Propulsion Systems Laboratory, a jet engine test facility. Throughout her career at NASA, she experienced impostor syndrome, which influenced her focus on helping high performers address self-doubt and align their confidence with their competence to increase professional influence. Zappala has delivered presentations and strategies to organizations such as AT&T, Merck, Freddie Mac, Boston Scientific, Rea & Associates, University of South Florida, and Parker Hannifin.

Zappala has been recognized as a top 10 finalist in the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking contest. She is the author of four books, including "Pushing Your Envelope: How Smart People Defeat Self-Doubt and Live with Bold Enthusiasm." She also co-authored "Buckeye Reflections: Legendary Moments from Ohio State Football" with Jack Park.

Her interests include fitness, college football, decorating, and sewing. After more than 35 years in Cleveland, Zappala relocated to Las Vegas.
