Mariana Vasconcelos

Mariana Vasconcelos is the co-founder and CEO of Agrosmart, a Brazilian agricultural technology company recognized for advancing digital transformation in farming across Latin America. Vasconcelos founded Agrosmart at age 23, developing software that leverages artificial intelligence to provide agricultural predictions based on soil data, weather conditions, and crop genetics. Raised in a farming family in Brazil, she gained firsthand insight into the challenges growers face in decision-making for irrigation, harvesting, and pest control, which informed her commitment to data-driven agriculture.

Vasconcelos studied at the Federal University of Itajubá, University of California, Los Angeles, and Singularity University. Her early experience in a STEM-based business course inspired her to launch a cloud computing start-up. Although that venture was not successful, it led her to a trainee program at Bosch in Germany, where she gained experience in start-up development and technology innovation. She later attended executive education programs at Harvard University, focusing on global mergers and acquisitions, and at the London School of Economics and Political Science, specializing in leadership.

Agrosmart operates the largest agricultural data network in Latin America, delivering digital agriculture solutions to regions with limited internet infrastructure and tropical agronomic conditions. The company monitors crops by installing sensors in fields to measure up to 14 environmental conditions, identifying microclimates and real-time crop needs, and integrates this data with satellite imaging. Agrosmart’s meteorological models and irrigation recommendations enable farmers to increase crop productivity and conserve water. Coca-Cola utilizes Agrosmart’s technology to monitor fruit farms in Espírito Santo. The company also acquired BoosterArgo, a major platform for agricultural producers in South America.

Vasconcelos has received recognition for her contributions to technology, agriculture, and sustainability, including honors from the World Economic Forum, MIT Technology Review, Forbes Brasil, and Fast Company. She is an advocate for climate action and gender equality in the agtech sector and has been named among the most influential people in Latin America by Bloomberg Linea. Globant recognized her with a Women That Build award in the game-changer category. Vasconcelos has addressed challenges in the agriculture and technology sectors, including initial resistance from farmers and agronomists, by demonstrating technical expertise and leadership.

Vasconcelos serves as an advisory board member at Thought For Food, Fundação Espaço ECO (BASF), and the Instituto Interamericano de Cooperação para a Agricultura. She is an IMAGINE Leader at IMAGINE, a global ambassador for Thought For Food, and has been recognized as one of the 100 most influential agribusiness professionals by Dinheiro Rural Magazine. Vasconcelos has also delivered keynote addresses at the Women in Agriculture Web Summit, contributing to global conversations on agtech, sustainable agriculture, and digital innovation.
