Malaak Compton-Rock

Malaak Compton is an activist and philanthropist who embodies the spirit of service, inspired by Marian Wright Edelman's quote: "Service is the rent we pay for living." With a background in public relations and special events in the entertainment industry, she has utilized her skills in cause-related marketing, notably during her tenure at the US Fund for UNICEF where she led the Special Events and Celebrity Relations Department.

Compton founded The Angelrock Project, an online e-village that promotes volunteerism, social responsibility, and sustainable change, focusing on youth, women's empowerment, and education. Additionally, she established Journey for Change: Empowering Youth through Global Service, a transformative program that transports at-risk youth from Brooklyn to Johannesburg to engage in volunteer service and expose them to global poverty, thereby fostering community giving.

In 1999, Compton launched styleWORKS, a nonprofit that assists women transitioning from welfare to work by providing grooming services, linking clients with local beauty salons where professionals donate their services. She is an active public speaker, emphasizing philanthropy and the importance of raising socially conscious children, and she shares her insights and experiences on platforms like "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "The Today Show," and CNN’s "Anderson Cooper 360."

Compton is the author of "If It Takes A Village, Build One: How I Found Meaning Through a Life of Service and 100+ Ways You Can Too." She holds honorary doctorate degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Salve Regina University, and Utica College of Syracuse University. Her commitment extends to serving on the board of directors for The Children's Defense Fund and The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, advocating for children's education and championing the prevention of child abuse through initiatives like Champions for Children.
