Linus Torvalds is a Finnish-American software engineer best known as the creator of the Linux kernel, the foundation of the open-source Linux operating system. First released in 1991, Linux has since become one of the most widely used platforms in the world, powering everything from personal computers to servers, smartphones, supercomputers and embedded devices. Torvalds also developed Git, the distributed version control system that has become a cornerstone of modern software development.
