Lee Rodriguez made her first foray into the world of acting in 2018, appearing in the series "Class of Lies" as Bea. She further extended her acting portfolio the same year by taking on the role of Naomi in "Grown-ish." However, it was in 2020 that she garnered wide recognition for her portrayal of Fabiola Torres, a gay teenager and captain of her high school’s robotics team, in the Netflix comedy "Never Have I Ever." The show, created by Mindy Kaling, saw Rodriguez join its cast, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Rodriguez has not kept her concerns about the entertainment industry to herself. She has openly addressed the issue of colorism and the lack of representation for dark-skinned actresses of color. This has positioned her as an advocate for diversity, providing her with an additional platform to reach audiences and influence change. Her personal identity as a queer woman, which she publicly announced on National Coming Out Day in 2020, further underscores her ability to speak on matters of representation and inclusivity in the industry.
Aside from her acting career, Rodriguez has expressed ambitions of releasing music albums and touring. In June of 2024, Rodriguez released her single "Friends That Kiss."
