Laurence Moroney

Laurence Moroney is a recognized leader in applied artificial intelligence, with a career spanning decades in technology advocacy and education. Moroney holds a Bachelor of Science in physics and computer science from Cardiff University, a postgraduate diploma in microelectronics systems design from Birmingham City University, and a graduate certificate in artificial intelligence from Stanford University.

Moroney began his career as a product manager at Vicon Industries, then served as senior architect at Reuters, director of technology evangelism at Mainsoft, and senior developer evangelist at Microsoft before joining Google as AI lead and later serving as lead AI advocate for more than a decade.

As AI advocacy lead at Google, Moroney collaborated with Google AI research and product development teams to expand access to artificial intelligence and machine learning. He contributed to AI education through hands-on training, global keynotes, and the TensorFlow YouTube channel, and architected the DeepLearning.AI TensorFlow Developer Professional Certificate on Coursera, a program that has trained hundreds of thousands of learners. Moroney also partnered with Andrew Ng at DeepLearning.AI to teach millions of people how to use machine learning. He has taught courses through Harvard University, Coursera, Udacity, and edX, reaching a global audience of students.

Moroney serves as director of AI at Arm, where he leads developer experience for on-device and edge AI, translating advances in machine learning into deployable products for billions of devices. He is also a senior fellow at AI Fund, the venture studio founded by Andrew Ng. Moroney has authored several books on AI development, including "AI and Machine Learning for Coders," "AI and Machine Learning for On-Device Development," "AI and ML for Coders in PyTorch," and "The Definitive Guide to Firebase." He has also advised the British Parliament on technology matters.

Moroney is frequently invited to deliver keynotes on topics such as generative AI strategy, on-device machine learning, responsible AI governance, and the future of work. His presentations provide audiences, from C-suite executives to engineering teams, with frameworks for building trustworthy AI systems at scale. One of his largest keynotes was delivered at a Google Developer Days event in Shanghai, streamed to 10 million viewers.

In addition to his technical work, Moroney is the author of three young adult novels—"The Fourth World," "The Million Year Journey," and "The Legend of the Locust"—and has written numerous screenplays, including "The Ties that Bind," the pilot episode of the science fiction TV series "Untethered" from Glass Forest Entertainment. He is an active member of Science Fiction Writers of America, with published novels, comic books, and a screenplay listed on IMDB. Moroney bridges technology and storytelling, engaging audiences across artificial intelligence, machine learning, and creative writing.
