Lance Berkman Biography
Lance Berkman, nicknamed "Fat Elvis" and "Big Puma," is an American baseball coach and former Major League Baseball outfielder and first baseman. He played 15 seasons in MLB for the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers.
A six-time MLB All-Star, Berkman won a World Series championship and was named National League Comeback Player of the Year with the Cardinals in 2011. Known for his versatility, he played all three outfield positions during his career. He is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 220 pounds.
After retiring from professional baseball, Berkman began coaching at Second Baptist School in Houston in 2015, where he worked alongside former Astros teammate Andy Pettitte. The duo led the team to a TAPPS state title in 2016. He later served as an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas during the 2021 season.
Berkman was named head baseball coach at Houston Christian University in 2021. He stepped down from the role in 2024.
He was eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 but received just five votes, falling below the threshold for future consideration.
