Krish O'Mara Vignarajah is the President and CEO of Global Refuge, leading efforts to advance refugee protection worldwide. She previously served as Policy Director for First Lady Michelle Obama and as Senior Advisor at the U.S. State Department under Secretaries Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. In 2018, she ran in the Maryland gubernatorial primary, finishing fourth.
In 2019, Vignarajah became President and CEO of the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, where she spearheaded litigation against the Trump administration’s Executive Order 13888 on refugee resettlement. Recognized for her leadership, she has been named one of The Daily Record’s “Top 100 Women” and “Most Admired CEOs,” The Hill’s Changemakers, WTCI’s “International Business Leaders,” and a Baltimore Sun Woman to Watch.
A published author, Vignarajah has written widely on immigration and refugee policy for outlets including The Washington Post, USA Today, CNN, and the Houston Chronicle. She has also shared her personal journey with breast cancer to help reduce stigma and inspire resilience.
