Kim Cameron

Kim S. Cameron is the William Russell Kelly Professor Emeritus of Management and Organizations at the Ross School of Business and Professor Emeritus of Higher Education in the School of Education at the University of Michigan. Cameron earned his MA and PhD degrees from Yale University and has held academic leadership roles at several institutions, including serving as dean of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, associate dean in the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University, and associate dean and department chair at the University of Michigan.

Cameron is known for his expertise in positive relational energy, focusing on how virtuous actions such as forgiveness, gratitude, kindness, and compassion influence organizational success and professional development. He is a co-founder of the Center for Positive Organizations at the University of Michigan, which researches positively deviant performance, virtuousness, and strengths in organizations. Cameron's research on organizational virtuousness and the development of cultures of abundance has appeared in more than 140 academic articles and 15 scholarly books. He is recognized among the top 10 scholars in the organizational sciences for the frequency of downloads of his work from Google.

Cameron's contributions include the creation of the Competing Values Framework and the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI), widely used tools for assessing and guiding organizational culture change. His book "Diagnosing and Changing Organizational Culture," co-authored with Robert Quinn, offers a systematic approach for managers seeking to transform organizational culture. Cameron also co-edited "Positive Organizational Scholarship," which contributed to the establishment of a new field in organizational studies, and co-edited the "Oxford Handbook of Positive Organizational Scholarship" with Gretchen Spreitzer.

Cameron's book "Positively Energizing Leadership: Virtuous Actions and Relationships That Create High Performance" synthesizes decades of research on positive energy in organizations. He is a Fellow in the Academy of Management and a recipient of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society's Outstanding Educator Award. Cameron has served on the National Research Council and has been recognized as a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar. He consults with business, government, and educational organizations globally, providing evidence-based insights on positive leadership and organizational culture.
