Kevin Merida

Kevin Merida is a journalist, author, and media executive whose career includes leadership roles at major news organizations. Merida began his journalism career at the Milwaukee Journal, focusing on investigative reporting, and later joined the Dallas Morning News, where he covered national politics and served as White House correspondent. At The Washington Post, Merida held several editorial and leadership positions, ultimately serving as managing editor. During his tenure, the newsroom earned four Pulitzer Prizes and underwent significant digital transformation.

Merida's experience extends to digital and multimedia journalism. At ESPN, he was senior vice president and editor in chief of The Undefeated, now known as Andscape, a multimedia platform examining the intersections of race, sports, and culture. His leadership at ESPN included oversight of investigative units and television programs, with teams earning multiple Sports Emmy Awards. As executive editor of the Los Angeles Times, Merida led digital innovation, newsroom reorganization, and expanded coverage, resulting in four Pulitzer Prizes and the Times' first Oscar for the documentary short film "The Last Repair Shop."

Merida has co-authored books including "Supreme Discomfort: The Divided Soul of Clarence Thomas" and "Obama: The Historic Campaign in Photographs." He contributes essays to The Washington Post Opinions section, serves as a strategic advisor for Breakwater Studios, and is a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board.
