Kevin Atlas

Kevin Atlas is an American motivational speaker, author, and former basketball player known for his work in disability advocacy, sports leadership, and youth empowerment. Born with only one arm due to complications during childbirth, Atlas overcame significant physical challenges to become an NCAA Division I basketball player. Standing 6 feet 11 inches tall, he has shared his story of perseverance and determination with audiences worldwide, focusing on topics such as overcoming adversity, personal growth, and resilience.

Atlas's basketball journey included recognition by Sports Illustrated for his playing ability with one hand. Despite missing most of his senior year in high school due to a broken leg, he became one of the top basketball players in his home state. After a postgraduate year at a military school in Virginia, Atlas earned a full athletic scholarship to play for the Manhattan College Jaspers in New York City, becoming the first disabled player in NCAA history to receive a full Division I athletic scholarship in his sport. On the court, he adapted his playing style by using his forearm stump to grip the ball and defend against opponents. Following his college career, Atlas played professional basketball in Asia.

Atlas's life is the subject of the documentary "Long Shot: The Kevin Laue Story." He is also the author of the book "Get in the Game," which explores his journey from anger to confidence and from the sidelines to active participation. Atlas hosts "Believe in You," a motivational video series sponsored by Varsity Brands that is shown in middle schools and high schools across the United States. He has spoken at schools in 49 states, sharing messages about leadership, inclusion, and overcoming obstacles.

In addition to his work with students, Atlas has delivered keynote speeches at venues such as the United Nations, Google, and Facebook. He has served as a spokesperson for Boys and Girls Clubs and as a board member at Special Olympics. Atlas has also led speaking tours in Africa, Europe, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, addressing diverse audiences on topics related to motivation, sportsmanship, and personal achievement. Through his presentations, Atlas emphasizes the importance of determination, belief, and the ability to overcome limitations.
