Kent Whitaker

Kent Whitaker is a New York Times bestselling author and speaker whose life changed following a violent act that resulted in the deaths of his wife and younger son, and left him and his older son wounded. Whitaker's older son, Bart, was later convicted of orchestrating the murders and sentenced to death. Despite these events, Whitaker chose to forgive all those involved, a decision made before Bart became a suspect.

Whitaker is the author of the New York Times bestseller "Murder by Family," which recounts his experience and explores themes of hope, encouragement, and new beginnings. He speaks nationally at churches, conferences, and organizations, addressing topics such as faith, forgiveness, and healing. His story has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CBS' 48 Hours Mystery!, and ABC's 20/20, reaching a wide audience interested in true crime, faith-based resilience, and restorative justice.

Whitaker advocated for the commutation of his son's sentence, arguing that execution would perpetuate his victimization. Bart Whitaker's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without parole by Governor Greg Abbott shortly before the scheduled execution. All author proceeds from "Murder by Family" are donated to charity.

Whitaker serves as co-director of Bigger Picture Ministries and, along with his wife, is an ordained minister. He travels extensively, speaking on topics such as grace, healing, and forgiveness. Whitaker also volunteers with prison ministries and nonprofit organizations, including support ministries for widows and widowers.
