Katty Kay is a British-Swiss journalist, author, and broadcaster with a career spanning more than three decades in international news. Kay offers a distinctive perspective on American politics and global affairs, informed by her experience living and working in the Middle East, South Africa, Japan, Europe, and the United States. She studied modern languages at the University of Oxford and is fluent in French and Italian. Kay began her journalism career as Zimbabwe correspondent for the African section of BBC World Service, later working for BBC World Service radio in London, before assignments in Tokyo for BBC News television and in Washington, D.C.
During her tenure with BBC, Kay has served as a reporter, lead anchor, and U.S. special correspondent for BBC Studios, where she creates and hosts television documentaries from both the United States and Europe. She presented "BBC World News America" and, with Christian Fraser, hosted "Beyond 100 Days" on BBC Four, BBC News, and BBC World News. Kay has anchored BBC coverage of two presidential elections. In her current role, she develops and hosts television documentaries and the interview series "Influential," featuring figures from culture, science, and business. Her first television documentary, "Trump: The Comeback?" examined the state of American democracy.
In addition to her journalism, Kay is recognized for her books addressing issues affecting women in the workplace and girls navigating adolescence. She is co-author, with Claire Shipman, of six books, including "Womenomics," "The Confidence Code," "The Confidence Code for Girls," "Living the Confidence Code," "The Confidence Code for Girls Journal," and "The Power Code." Four of these titles are New York Times bestsellers, and "The Confidence Code for Girls" debuted at the top of The New York Times bestseller list. These works have contributed to ongoing conversations about women's empowerment and leadership development. In 2026, Kay launched a new podcast called "Doing It Anyway with Katty Kay," which focuses on the topic of confidence, particularly in women's experiences.
Kay also co-hosts the podcast "The Rest is Politics: US Edition" with Anthony Scaramucci and is a regular contributor on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," occasionally serving as guest host. Her presence in popular culture includes being the answer to a question on the game show Jeopardy and being portrayed in a skit on Saturday Night Live that referenced MSNBC's Morning Joe. Kay is known for her authoritative and accessible reporting on global politics, leadership, and women's issues.
