Katie Owens

Katie Owens is a healthcare experience strategist and the co-founder and president of Healthcare Experience Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on improving care delivery and patient experience across the healthcare continuum. Owens emphasizes the importance of healthcare delivery for patients, caregivers, providers, and administrators. As president of Healthcare Experience Foundation, she works to ensure organizations have access to resources for patient engagement and workforce development to achieve measurable results. Owens has worked with hundreds of organizations and thousands of leaders to foster cultures that support person-centered care, guided by the principle that every individual deserves an environment where they feel confident in both receiving and delivering quality care.

Owens brings extensive leadership experience in healthcare management. She previously served as vice president of the Engagement Institute at HealthStream and held a leadership role at Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Florida, supporting the system's ongoing efforts to improve care quality. Owens led the growth of Baptist Leadership Group into a nationally recognized healthcare coaching practice prior to its acquisition by HealthStream. At HealthStream, she oversaw the expansion of patient experience and workforce engagement solutions and contributed to content development and thought leadership to enhance market awareness.

Her teams have developed competencies for hospitals and health systems nationwide, improving patient experience across emergency departments, acute care, physician practices, and post-acute care. Owens also serves as senior vice president of the PRC Excellence Accelerator at Professional Research Consultants, where she applies her expertise in healthcare leadership to help organizations improve patient care and workforce engagement. She holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of North Florida and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida.

Owens is the lead author of "The HCAHPS Imperative for Creating Patient-Centered Excellence" and is writing a second book on the importance of communicating in the patient's language. Her work has been featured in Huffington Post, Healthcare Financial Management Magazine, and Hospitals and Health Networks. Owens is an internationally recognized speaker and has presented for organizations such as the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Beryl Institute, Cleveland Clinic's Empathy Summit, the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She is recognized as a thought leader in healthcare culture, patient experience, and workforce engagement.
