Katharine Hayhoe

Katharine Hayhoe is the Chief Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, a Paul Whitfield Horn Distinguished Professor and the Political Science Endowed Professor in Public Policy and Public Law within the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University. Before June 2021, Hayhoe served as the co-director of the Climate Center, an interdisciplinary hub boasting a roster of over 50 faculty associates hailing from various colleges across the university. Additionally, she was the founder and CEO of ATMOS Research.

Hayhoe is an accomplished author, writing "Saving Us: A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World," which was released in 2021.

Her extensive research portfolio centers on the development and application of high-resolution climate projections to assess the future implications of climate change on both human society and the natural environment. She actively collaborates with cities, states, non-profit organizations, and federal agencies, working to bridge the divide between climate science and practical, on-the-ground planning. Hayhoe's contributions extend to a catalog of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, with her notable role as lead author on the Second, Third, and Fourth U.S. National Climate Assessments. Furthermore, she has taken on the role of writer and host for the PBS Digital Series, "Global Weirding."

Hayhoe is recognized as an Oxfam America Sister of the Planet and a United Nations Champion of the Earth. She presently chairs the Earth Science Women's Network Advisory Council and also plays a pivotal role in the TED Countdown initiative, the American Geophysical Union's Climate Communications Prize Committee, the National Center for Atmospheric Research Walter Orr Roberts Distinguished Lecture Committee, the science advisory board for the Environmental Resilience Institute at Indiana University, the Editorial Committee of Texas Tech University Press, the scientific council for Engie, the international advisory board for the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion, and the advisory board for the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.
