Kate Borsato and Melissa Medjuck

Kate Borsato and Melissa Medjuck are the co-owners of The Perinatal Collective, a Canadian mental health platform focused on supporting parents and professionals throughout the perinatal journey. Kate Borsato is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia, founder of The Perinatal Collective, and holds a master's degree in counseling psychology as well as the Perinatal Mental Health Certification. Melissa Medjuck is a Registered Social Worker in British Columbia, a certified birth and postpartum doula, holds a master's degree in social work, and has served as an adjunct professor with the School of Social Work at University of British Columbia. Together, they combine clinical expertise, lived experience, and academic grounding to address gaps in perinatal mental health care.

After encountering significant gaps in perinatal mental health—both as therapists supporting new mothers and as parents—Borsato and Medjuck have worked to provide evidence-based support and challenge cultural narratives around parenthood. Their work highlights the silencing of parents' struggles, the societal undervaluing of motherhood, and the need for improved perinatal mental health resources. Medjuck is also a certified yoga teacher and mother of twins, with more than 15 years of experience specializing in women's mental health. Borsato is a maternal mental health specialist and mother of two daughters, focusing on helping mothers navigate the transition to and through motherhood.

With advanced degrees and specialization in perinatal mental health, Borsato and Medjuck provide individual counseling, develop educational resources for perinatal professionals, and share free mental health resources online. Their approach emphasizes collaborative care, connecting clients with mental health professionals and a broader network of healthcare providers. They are committed to advancing perinatal mental health education by creating resources for healthcare providers and supporting students interested in this field.

The Perinatal Mental Health Conference, organized by The Perinatal Collective, offers practical and inclusive training for providers supporting families during pregnancy and postpartum. The conference addresses topics such as perinatal mental health practices, innovative treatment options, cultural competence, professional development, and strategies for enhancing patient care. Borsato has appeared as a guest expert on podcasts, discussing subjects including postpartum anxiety and the identity shift associated with motherhood, reflecting the group's mission to normalize and destigmatize the parenting experience. The Perinatal Collective aims to build an accessible, honest mental health hub for parents and professionals in the perinatal space.
