Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale is an English actress whose career spans more than three decades, with work in literary period dramas, Hollywood blockbusters, and action franchises. Beckinsale is the daughter of British television actor Richard Beckinsale and was introduced to the world of performance at an early age. She studied French and Russian literature at New College, Oxford, where she twice won the W.H. Smith Young Writers competition for fiction and poetry before leaving to pursue acting full-time.

Beckinsale first gained attention while at Oxford, appearing in Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of "Much Ado About Nothing." She established herself in British cinema with roles in BBC's Cold Comfort Farm and the period drama "Emma," in which she played the title character. Her transition to Hollywood included roles in "The Last Days of Disco" and "Brokedown Palace," followed by international recognition as the romantic lead opposite Ben Affleck in "Pearl Harbor."
