Karl Schmid

Karl Schmid is an Emmy-nominated producer and correspondent for ABC's "On the Red Carpet" and a two-time GLAAD Media Award nominee.

Originally from Australia, Schmid has worked on camera in entertainment news and magazine-style programming for two decades in the United States and internationally, including extensive work with ABC-owned stations in Los Angeles. Schmid publicly disclosed his HIV status, becoming one of the few on-camera broadcasters in news to speak openly about living with HIV. His story has been featured on NBC's Today Show, ABC's Tamron Hall Show, The Doctors, and various ABC News segments, as well as in print in Daily Mail, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, People Magazine, and WebMD.

Schmid was included in OUT 100 and recognized as one of 100 LGBTQ Icons and Iconoclasts Who Are Shaping Culture in L.A. and Beyond by LA Magazine. He created and hosted the digital series and nonprofit initiative +Life, which focuses on ending HIV stigma and promoting open conversations about living with HIV. Schmid is known for his work as a speaker and moderator on topics related to health, inclusion, and media representation.

Schmid has worked with and spoken to corporate clients such as Gilead, APLA Health, and Playbill, and received the inaugural Ribbon Award from Playbill, presented by Dr. Anthony Fauci, in recognition of his leadership and visibility in HIV advocacy and public health communication.
