Justin Cyrus

Justin Cyrus is the founder and CEO of Lunar Outpost, a Golden, Colorado-based space technology company developing robotic systems, lunar mobility and infrastructure to support a sustained human presence beyond Earth. Cyrus has led Lunar Outpost from its founding in 2017 to a series of notable milestones in space exploration, including the first commercial rover to operate on the Moon and the first sale of lunar resources to NASA.

Cyrus grew up near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas, where his father worked in human spaceflight at NASA and later served as a vice president in Lockheed Martin’s Moon to Mars office. He studied electrical and computer engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder before earning master’s degrees in electrical engineering and space resources from Colorado School of Mines. Prior to founding Lunar Outpost with his brother Julian Cyrus and Forrest Meyen, he worked at Lockheed Martin on military satellites and other aerospace programs.

Under Cyrus’s leadership, Lunar Outpost developed its MAPP (Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform) rover, which became the first American commercial robotic rover to operate on the Moon in March 2025. The company is also developing a human-rated Lunar Terrain Vehicle for NASA’s Artemis program in partnership with major companies including General Motors, Goodyear, Leidos and MDA Space.

Cyrus’s broader vision is to help establish a commercial “cislunar economy” by developing the mobility, robotics and infrastructure needed for humans and businesses to operate beyond Earth. He has described his long-term goal as using space resources to help make humanity multiplanetary while generating technologies and capabilities that can improve life on Earth.
