Julien C. Mirivel, PhD

Julien C. Mirivel, PhD, is a professor of applied communication at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Mirivel is recognized for his contributions to the science of human connection and is considered among the founding scholars in the field of positive communication. He earned his doctorate from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has developed an academic career encompassing research, teaching, and institutional leadership. His leadership roles include co-director of the Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence, interim chair, associate dean, and dean of the College of Social Sciences & Communication.

Mirivel's research focuses on the impact of communication on the quality of relationships and everyday life. He has published in leading communication journals and is the author of four books on positive communication, including "The Art of Positive Communication: Theory and Practice," "How Communication Scholars Think and Act: A Lifespan Perspective," and "Communication and Community" with Kristen Christman. He also co-authored "Positive Communication for Leaders: Proven Strategies for Inspiring Unity and Effecting Change" with Alex Lyon, PhD. Mirivel's work integrates research in communication and leadership with practical strategies for effective leadership, community building, and organizational change.

Mirivel has been named a Distinguished Teaching Fellow at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He has delivered keynotes, trainings, and workshops on effective communication across the United States, Canada, and internationally. His writing has appeared in Fast Company, CEO Magazine, HRMorning, and Chief Executive. As a TEDx speaker, Mirivel presents models for inspiring change in personal communication and fostering better social environments.

Mirivel founded the Positive Communication Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a community of scholars, practitioners, and students focused on positive human communication.
