Julie Schmidt Hasson

Julie Schmidt Hasson, Ed.D., is an educator, researcher, author, and keynote speaker who has dedicated her professional life to supporting teachers in cultivating resilience, engagement, and sustainability in the classroom. After spending 15 years as a primary-grade teacher and another decade as a school administrator, she earned her doctorate in educational leadership from the University of South Florida and transitioned to a role as a professor at Appalachian State University. Drawing on her extensive experience and collaboration with resilience experts like Dr. Amit Sood, she developed the evidence-based Teacher Recharge Framework and Toolkit to help teachers “impact lives and still have a life,” addressing burnout with practical strategies. Through dynamic keynotes, tailored professional learning, and consulting, she empowers educators to identify and respond to challenges using research-backed methods that reinvigorate both their teaching and well‑being. Her work is further amplified through articles in MiddleWeb, notably her “Resilient in the Middle” and daily “Battery Charged” series, where she offers tools like reframing, reflection, and energy management to help teachers thrive.

Dr. Hasson’s research on long term teacher impact is the foundation of her books, professional development programs, and popular TEDx talk. She is the author of multiple books, including "Safe, Seen, and Stretched in the Classroom: The Remarkable Ways Teachers Shape Students’ Lives" and "Pause, Ponder, and Persist in the Classroom: How Teachers Turn Challenges into Opportunities for Impact."

Dr. Hasson is also a co-host of the Lessons That Last podcast -- named after her latest book -- and the founder of the Chalk and Chances project, a vehicle for celebrating and elevating the teaching profession.
