Jose Canseco

José Canseco is a Cuban-American former professional baseball outfielder and designated hitter who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball. After debuting with the Oakland Athletics, Canseco earned the American League Rookie of the Year Award and became known as a power hitter. He is a six-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner, contributing to three American League pennants and a World Series championship with the Athletics, as well as earning a second World Series ring with the New York Yankees.

Canseco became the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single season, a performance that earned him the American League Most Valuable Player Award. That season, he led the league in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, and OPS+. Over his career, Canseco recorded 462 home runs and is among a select group of players to achieve both 400 home runs and 200 stolen bases. Despite injuries later in his career, he averaged 40 home runs and 120 RBIs per 162 games played.

Following his retirement, Canseco became a prominent figure in discussions about performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. His memoir, "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big," became a New York Times bestseller and detailed the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball. Many of his claims were later corroborated by the Mitchell Report and subsequent investigations. He continued to address these issues in his second memoir, "Vindicated: Big Names, Big Liars, and the Battle to Save Baseball."

Canseco has also appeared on television programs including "The Surreal Life" and "Celebrity Apprentice," and made a cameo in the "Simpsons" episode "Homer at the Bat." He has spoken publicly about the pressures athletes face, the culture of performance enhancement, and the personal impact of life in professional sports, contributing to ongoing conversations about integrity and accountability in baseball.
