John Herrington Biography
Commander John B. Herrington was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado, a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a PhD in Education from the University of Idaho.
As a Naval Aviator and Test Pilot he has over 5000 flight hours in more than 30 different types of airplanes.
In November 2002 Commander Herrington flew in space aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour and logged over 330 hours in space, including nearly 20 hours of extra-vehicular activity (spacewalks).
In 2008, CDR Herrington completed a 4,200 bike ride across the United States to promote Native American interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
As a proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma and considered the first Native American to fly in space.
