Joel Embiid Biography
Joel Hans Embiid is a professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers since being selected third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. He is a six-time NBA All-Star, a five-time member of the All-NBA Team and a three-time member of the All-Defensive Team. He was named the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2023 and was included in Forbes' "30 Under 30" Sport list the same year. In 2024, Embiid was announced as a member of the 2024 Paris Olympic team.
Embiid had originally planned on playing professional volleyball in Europe but started playing basketball as a teenager in his homeland of Cameroon. Discovered at a basketball camp by Luc Mbah a Moute, a fellow Cameroonian and an NBA player, Embiid moved to the United States at the age of sixteen to devote himself to becoming a professional basketball player. As a high school senior, he led his team to a 33-4 record and state championship. A five-star recruit, Embiid committed to the University of Kansas, where he played for the Jayhawks for one year prior to declaring eligibility for the NBA draft.
