Joe Weinman

Joe Weinman is a digital strategist, technology executive, and author whose work has contributed to the understanding of cloud computing economics. Weinman is the author of "Digital Disciplines: Attaining Market Leadership via the Cloud, Big Data, Social, Mobile, and the Internet of Things," "Cloudonomics: The Business Value of Cloud Computing," and co-editor of "Fog and Fogonomics: Challenges and Practices of Fog Computing, Communication, Networking, Strategy, and Economics." He has also contributed to "Regulating the Cloud: Policy for Computing Infrastructure," "Guide to Big Data Applications," and "Practical Cloud Security."

"Cloudonomics" is recognized for its analysis of cloud and edge economics, quantifying the strategic and economic value of cloud computing and explaining the trade-offs between private and public clouds as well as centralized and distributed edge architectures. Weinman is the founder of Cloudonomics, an analytical approach that leverages economics, behavioral economics, statistics, calculus, computational complexity theory, simulation, and system dynamics to assess the business, financial, and user experience benefits of cloud computing and on-demand, pay-per-use business models.

Weinman has held executive positions at organizations including Bell Labs, AT&T, HP, and Digital Realty, with responsibilities spanning corporate strategy, research and development, innovation management, partner and business development, product management, operations, and sales and marketing. He has been named a "Top 10 Cloud Computing Leader" by TechTarget and is a frequent keynote speaker and blogger. Weinman has delivered presentations at nearly 450 events worldwide.

He holds 27 U.S. and international patents in areas such as cloud computing, wireless and wireline networking, cellular telephony, distributed storage, media and gaming, Internet search algorithms, homomorphic encryption, and consumer products. Weinman has been cited in academic and research papers, newspapers, magazines, television, financial and industry analyst reports, TED talks, patents, and U.S. Supreme Court amicus curiae briefs, including by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services, Gartner Research Board, Forrester, Oppenheimer and Co., GigaOm, Forbes, and InformationWeek.

He serves on the strategic advisory boards of companies focused on Internet routing, edge computing, cybersecurity, crypto/DAO, and sustainability, and is also on the advisory boards of Pace University Lubin School of Business, Seton Hall Stillman School of Business, and the Pacific Telecommunications Council. Weinman is a member of the IEEE Fog/Edge Industry Advisory Board and vice chair of the IEEE 5G Industry Advisory Board.
