Jimmy Johnson

Jimmy Johnson is recognized in professional golf as a caddie with a dual perspective, having competed as both a touring professional and a caddie. Johnson played college golf at the University of North Texas and spent 17 years on the Sunshine Tour. He arrived on the Sunshine Tour at age 22, coming from Dallas and facing contemporaries such as Hal Sutton, Fred Couples, Chip Beck, Phil Blackmar, Payne Stewart, and Bob Tway. In the U.S. Amateur at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey, Johnson reached the third round before losing to Bobby Clampett and later competed in the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. Despite several close calls at Q School finals, Johnson continued his professional golf career abroad.

Transitioning to caddying, Johnson brought a comprehensive understanding of the game. He began caddying full time for Nick Price, contributing to three PGA Tour victories. Their partnership was initiated at the suggestion of caddie Jeff Medlen, who had previously worked with Price during his Open Championship and PGA Championship wins. Johnson also caddied for Charles Howell III and Adam Scott before joining Steve Stricker, with whom he worked from 2008 to 2015. During this period, Stricker achieved eight PGA Tour victories, five top-10 finishes in major championships, and participated in multiple Ryder Cups.

Johnson later joined Justin Thomas as a caddie, contributing to 14 PGA Tour wins, including a PGA Championship, PLAYERS Championship, two stints at No. 1 in the world, and a FedEx Cup title. Johnson is noted for his calm demeanor and strategic insight, attributes highlighted by figures such as Mike Thomas and Paul Tesori.

Over a career spanning more than 25 years and approximately 650 tournaments, Johnson has been part of 25 victories. His contributions were recognized with induction into the Caddie Hall of Fame during the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club. Johnson is a member of the PGA Tour Caddie Hall of Fame and has also caddied on the LIV Tour for Charl Schwartzel. His career reflects adaptability and a deep understanding of professional golf, making him a knowledgeable figure within the sport.
