Jemele Hill

Jemele Hill's journey in journalism commenced with her tenure at esteemed publications such as the Detroit Free Press and the Orlando Sentinel, and soon transitioned into the realm of television. As a sports journalist, her expertise was showcased on ESPN2 where she co-hosted "His & Hers" with Michael Smith, a rebrand of the show "Numbers Never Lie." Her momentum continued as she co-hosted SC6, the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN's "SportsCenter" from 2017 to 2018. Adding to her versatile portfolio, Hill took on the role of a contributing writer for The Atlantic post her stint with ESPN.

Branching out from traditional journalism, Hill has dabbled in various mediums of communication. From August 2020 to February 2021, she co-hosted Vice's "Cari & Jemele (Won't) Stick to Sports" with Cari Champion, and in February 2022, she was cast in the documentary series "Everything's Gonna Be All White," airing on Showtime. On the personal front, Hill shared her journey and insights in her 2022 autobiography "Uphill: A Memoir." In 2007, she won the inaugural McKenzie Cup, awarded in honor of sports editor Van McKenzie, at the annual Poynter Media Summit. A decade later, her efforts were recognized with an Emmy for Outstanding News Special for the ABC News Special "The President and The People." Further accolades include being named journalist of the year by the National Association of Black Journalists in 2018 and being listed among the 21 Most Powerful Women in the Business of Sports by Worth in 2019. These recognitions underscore her impact as a vital voice in sports journalism.
