Jason Dove Mark

Jason Mark is an award-winning environmental journalist, editor, and author whose work explores the complex relationships between nature, climate, conservation, and society. Throughout his career, he has reported on food and agriculture, climate change and energy, biodiversity, wilderness protection, environmental health, and the political and cultural forces that shape the future of the planet.

Mark's reporting has taken him around the world—from tracking jaguars along the U.S.-Mexico border and documenting the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico to exploring the mountains of Chilean Patagonia, investigating Canada's tar sands, and plunging into the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean. Along the way, he has worked alongside farmers, scientists, conservationists, fishermen, entrepreneurs, and community leaders committed to protecting the natural world.

A respected editor as well as a reporter, Mark served as editor of Earth Island Journal from 2007 to 2015 before becoming editor-in-chief of Sierra, where he led the publication for nearly a decade. As a freelance journalist, his work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Gastronomica, and the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

Mark is the author of "Satellites in the High Country: Searching for the Wild in the Age of Man," which The Wall Street Journal praised as "a beautiful meditation on what it means to be wild in an age when wilderness is increasingly difficult to find." His latest book, "The Earth Said Remember Me: How to Revive Our Memories and Restore the Planet," explores how reconnecting with nature can help restore both human memory and the living world.

Mark holds a degree in international relations from Georgetown University and a certificate in ecological horticulture from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He lives in the Pacific Northwest with his partner, daughter, dog, cat, and a flock of backyard chickens, where he enjoys hiking, birdwatching, backpacking, and tending his suburban homestead.
