Jane S. Foy is a broadcaster, author, and caregiver advocate whose career in media has informed her work supporting those navigating dementia caregiving. Foy began her public career in the performing arts after attending Pittsburgh Playhouse School of the Theater and working as a stage manager at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. This early experience in communication and stage management contributed to her later roles in broadcasting and public speaking.
Foy launched her broadcasting career in Pittsburgh at KDKA-TV as a news writer and editor, then joined WPXI-TV in the Promotions and Public Relations department, producing promotional spots and coordinating special events. Her radio experience includes serving as a morning show co-host and news anchor at WWSW in Pittsburgh. Foy also established a college internship program in partnership with Duquesne University, University of Pittsburgh, and Point Park College, and developed an etiquette lecture series for college students focused on the interview process. After moving to Loudoun County, Virginia, she created the television program "Loudon Showcase of Homes" before settling in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she joined WINA radio as a news anchor and morning show co-host until her retirement.
Foy's personal experience as a caregiver began when her husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia. She authored "The A to Z Guide for Primary Caregivers of Dementia Patients," sharing her story and offering practical advice for caregivers. The book provides guidance for those caring for loved ones with dementia, addressing challenges and strategies for maintaining well-being, and is recognized as a resource in dementia care and caregiver support.
While her husband resides in a dementia care facility, Foy continues to advocate for his care and maintains communication with facility staff, offering her perspective to others in similar situations. As a speaker, Foy addresses topics such as caregiver self-care, maintaining a social life, pursuing hobbies, and seeking support. Her expertise in broadcasting, combined with her firsthand caregiving experience, positions Foy as a knowledgeable resource for families affected by dementia and those seeking guidance in caregiving and dementia support.
