Jan Broberg

Jan Broberg is an American actress, singer, dancer, and survivor of child abduction and grooming. As a child, Broberg was kidnapped twice by a family friend at ages 12 and 14. During the first abduction, her captor manipulated her through psychological tactics, leading to significant trauma. After enduring captivity and the effects of brainwashing, Broberg gradually began to question and overcome the false narratives imposed on her, eventually reintegrating into society. She continued her work in acting, which she has described as therapeutic in processing her experiences.

Broberg has appeared in more than two dozen feature films, numerous television series, and many stage productions. She co-starred with Elijah Wood in "Maniac" and portrayed the mother of the main character in "Baptists at Our Barbecue." Her most prominent television role was in the series "Everwood," where she appeared in 32 episodes. Additional television credits include "Girlboss," "Criminal Minds," and "I'm Sorry." Broberg graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University with a degree in cinematic arts and theatre.

Broberg's story became widely known through the documentary "Abducted in Plain Sight" on Netflix. Her experiences were also depicted in the nine-part limited series "A Friend of the Family," which she co-produced with Peacock, and in her book, "The Jan Broberg Story: The True Crime Story of a Young Girl Abducted and Brainwashed by a Family Friend," co-written with her mother, Mary Ann Broberg. The Peacock series featured performances by Anna Paquin, Colin Hanks, and Jake Lacey.

Broberg received the Hope Award from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for her advocacy and public outreach on behalf of children at risk of assault, particularly by individuals known to them. She founded The Jan Broberg Foundation to support survivors of abuse and to promote prevention through education about the tactics of groomers. The foundation is dedicated to providing healing and hope for survivors of childhood sexual abuse, ensuring that all survivors are seen, heard, and believed.

In her public speaking engagements, Broberg shares her experiences to raise awareness about child sexual abuse and assault. She discusses the sophisticated manipulation tactics used by perpetrators and the challenges faced by families. Broberg's advocacy focuses on breaking the silence surrounding abuse, encouraging open conversations, and inspiring change to protect others from similar harm.
