Holly Holm

Holly Holm is an American mixed martial artist, former professional boxer, and kickboxer, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished crossover athletes in combat sports history. Competing in the bantamweight division of the UFC, Holm rose to global prominence with her stunning victory over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 on November 15, 2015. Fighting in front of a record crowd of over 56,000 in Melbourne, Australia, Holm captured the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship and handed Rousey her first professional loss in what is widely considered one of the greatest upsets in combat sports history.

Before transitioning to MMA, Holm built a legendary boxing career, becoming an 18-time world champion across three weight classes. Known for her technical precision, footwork, and discipline, she was named Female Fighter of the Year by The Ring in both 2005 and 2006. In June 2008, she became the undisputed welterweight champion by defeating Mary Jo Sanders, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest female boxers of all time.

Holm’s combat sports journey began unexpectedly through aerobics classes, where trainer Mike Winkeljohn recognized her potential and introduced her to kickboxing. She compiled an undefeated amateur kickboxing record of 6-0-2, winning a national title at the International Kickboxing Federation’s amateur championships before making her professional debut.

She transitioned to mixed martial arts in 2011, debuting with a TKO victory and quickly rising through the ranks with her elite striking background. Over time, Holm became known for her versatility, head-kick knockouts, and ability to compete at the highest level across multiple disciplines.

Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2022, Holm continues to compete and remain active in MMA while maintaining her reputation as a pioneer for women in fighting sports.
